October 12, 2024- In a hard-fought contest at the PNY Sports Arena, the Mercer Chiefs shut out the West Chester Wolves NCDC team 2-0. Despite relentless pressure from the Wolves, Mercer goaltender Dominick Gatto turned aside all 41 shots he faced, securing the win for the visiting Chiefs.
The game remained scoreless through the first period as both teams struggled to generate quality chances. Wolves goaltender Sebastian Pribula made 14 saves in the opening frame to keep his team in the fight.
Mercer broke the deadlock midway through the second period when Anthony Sparo found the back of the net at 6:40, assisted by Samuel Ciappa. Less than two minutes later, Gregory Diamond doubled the Chiefs' lead off a setup by Tyler Agnew. Despite several offensive pushes, the Wolves couldn’t solve Gatto, who stood tall between the pipes.
The third period saw tensions rise as both teams engaged in several physical altercations. A series of penalties, including two major penalties and game misconducts for fighting, broke out in the final frame, but the Wolves were unable to capitalize on the opportunities to get back into the game.
