Wolves NCDC drop game in Mercer to Chiefs 2-4

The West Chester Wolves dropped a tightly contested matchup against the Mercer Chiefs, falling 4-2 on the road at Ice Land Skating Center on Saturday evening. Despite a promising start and standout performances, the Wolves were unable to hold off a late surge by the Chiefs.

West Chester opened the scoring at 13:30 of the first period when defenseman Logan Lambrecht capitalized on an opportunity set up by Brayden Sprickman and Liam McGuern. Lorenzo Rossi stood strong in goal, keeping Mercer off the board through 20 minutes with six key saves.

Momentum shifted in the second frame as the Chiefs scored twice, including a shorthanded goal by Samuel Ciappa at 7:34. Mercer added another tally at 13:36, courtesy of Alexsander Zverev, to take a 2-1 lead into the final period. The Wolves battled through penalties in the period, with Logan Lambrecht and Liam O’Donoghue serving time for roughing and hitting from behind.

The Wolves tied the game briefly at 15:18 of the third period when Lambrecht notched his second goal of the game, assisted by Brady Huang and Sprickman. However, Mercer’s Jacob Therrien responded just over a minute later to reclaim the lead. Brody Finnegan sealed the game with an empty-net goal at 19:38.

Rossi turned aside 22 shots in a valiant effort, while Mercer’s Dominick Gatto stopped 25 to earn the win.
