The West Chester Wolves are excited to announce the tendering of defenseman Luca Mestrandrea for the 2025-2026 season. The 18-year-old, born in Burbank, California, brings size, skill, and leadership to the Wolves as they look to build on their commitment to developing high-caliber players.
Standing at 6'2" and 187 pounds, Mestrandrea is a mobile defenseman capable of making an impact in all areas of the game. Over the past few seasons, he has demonstrated his versatility and growth with Portsmouth Abbey School, where he captains the team, and in the Pre-Prep Showcase League (PPP). Most recently, Mestrandrea tallied 14 points (2 goals, 12 assists) in 29 games during the 2023-24 USHS-Prep season and has already added 8 points in 11 games with Team White in the 2024-25 PPP.
Head Coach R.C. Lyke spoke highly of Mestrandrea's potential and the leadership qualities he brings to the program "Luca is a big, strong, mobile defenseman who can play in all situations. Luca is a captain and a leader both on the ice and in the classroom for his prep team this season. We feel Luca will be a great culture kid and leader in our locker room next year for our Wolves team."

Lyke also credited Portsmouth Abbey School Head Coach Zach Cappelli for his role in Mestrandrea’s development "Luca is coached by Zach Cappelli at Portsmouth, who shares many of the same coaching philosophies and ideas on player development and advancement that we value here in the Wolves program. Coach Cappelli also played a large role in helping us sign Joshua Swan this summer, who is one of the Wolves' top offensive players in the NCDC this season."
For Mestrandrea, joining the Wolves is the culmination of years of hard work and dedication. In a statement, he expressed his gratitude "I would like to thank Coach Lyke and the Wolves staff for this amazing opportunity to be a part of such a strong and competitive program. I would like to thank my family and Coach Cappelli for seeing my potential and their unwavering support over the years to help make earning this opportunity a reality. I look forward to growing as a young man and developing my game with the West Chester Wolves program."
With Mestrandrea's combination of skill, size, and leadership, the Wolves are confident he will be a key contributor and help set the tone for success on and off the ice.
