The West Chester Wolves put up a valiant effort but fell short in overtime, losing 2-1 to the Connecticut Junior Rangers in a closely contested NCDC showdown on Saturday morning at Chelsea Piers.
Alec Alfieri got things going for the Wolves with a power-play goal in the first period at 11:59, assisted by Bryan Weissler and Kyle Goudie. West Chester held the lead through the period, but Connecticut evened the score in the second when Ondos capitalized at 8:21. Both teams fought hard, with physical play dominating the ice and a flurry of penalties.
The Wolves applied pressure throughout, outshooting the Junior Rangers 49-39. However, Connecticut’s goalie, Shelley, stood tall with an impressive 48 saves, denying West Chester time and time again.
Despite opportunities in the third, the game headed to overtime, where the Junior Rangers struck quickly. Just one minute into OT, Filippelli scored the game-winner, handing the Wolves a tough loss.
Alfieri and goaltender Pribula, who made 37 saves on 39 shots, delivered standout performances as the Wolves gear up for Game 2 tomorrow at 6:45 PM EDT.
