WEST CHESTER, PA — The West Chester Wolves Premier team wrapped up a hard-fought two-game series against the Elmira Impact this weekend, securing a 2-1 victory on Saturday before falling 2-0 in Sunday’s rematch at the PNY Sports Arena.
The Wolves held their ground early, but Elmira broke through in the first period when Karson Grainey set up Michael Bottrell for the game’s opening goal at 7:36. The Wolves’ efforts to find the back of the net were stifled by Elmira’s goaltender Riley Gorman, who recorded a 22-save shutout.
Despite West Chester’s strong penalty kill throughout the second period, a third-period power play gave Elmira an opportunity to extend their lead. Reece Furtado capitalized on the man advantage, scoring at 7:17 with assists from William Drouin and Tyler DeTreux.
Elijah Wiltshire stood tall in net for the Wolves, making 27 saves, but Elmira’s sustained pressure and disciplined defensive play proved too much to overcome.
Penalties played a significant role in the game’s pace, with the Wolves racking up 40 penalty minutes compared to Elmira’s 28. West Chester’s power play opportunities went unconverted, further highlighting the team’s struggles against Elmira’s penalty kill unit.
